The Ugly Duckling

Do you know what it’s like being that one friend that is always thought of last, often even forgotten? The one person in the class that’s not invited to the party? Practically, invisible next to all of your supermodel, gorgeous looking girl friends? The nice guy that always finishes last?
If you are any one of these, then I’m sorry to say, you’re the ugly duckling of the pond. Now don’t get me wrong, being the ugly duckling is by no means an insult. Yes, “ugly” is hard to be seen as a compliment; but in this one case, it is.
The thing about being the ugly duckling, is that you often wonder, “What is wrong with me?” You want to figure out why you aren’t being noticed, or why you are always the first to be forgotten. The people around you mean so much to you, you value them; but it just doesn’t seem reciprocated. Often times, you want to stop being who you are because you are so fed up of your invisibility.
Keep being the ugly duckling. You see, people who catch all the attention, don’t always get the right type of attention. Nothing is “wrong” with you. You have to consider, that maybe the crowd you are hanging with, just may not be your crowd. As the ugly duckling, you have to take the time to truly evaluate the people that you place value on. When you aren’t forcing yourself to fit in, it’s easier to see who’s real from who’s fake.
Absolutely nothing is wrong with being the ugly duckling in a group. Flying beneath the radar can save you some hurt. And one day you will find people that treasure your presence in their lives. Sadly, in our society, inner beauty is often overlooked. Despite that, always remember, the ugly duckling was a late bloomer that changed into a beautiful swan. I should know, I am one.
